GEEK PICTURES Co-Produces, Co-Distributes, and Serves as Production Company for BANA🕳️ANA | Special Release Event Held as Stars Goro Inagaki, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, and Shingo Katori Reflect on the Long-Awaited Sequel Eight Years After the Original
A special event celebrating the release of BANA🕳️ANA—jointly produced and distributed by GEEK PICTURES and CULEN, with GEEK PICTURES also serving as the production company—was successfully held.
The event welcomed lead actors Goro Inagaki, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, and Shingo Katori, along with First Summer Uika, Shuri, Ami Tei, Masanobu Ozawa, Mitsuru Fukikoshi, and director Kenji Yamauchi.
The event also marked a first for both ABEMA and U-NEXT, with the special event and the feature film being livestreamed together in a one-night-only broadcast.
Reflecting on the release of the new film nearly eight years after its predecessor, Katori joked,
"We announced a sequel while the first film was still in theaters... and then nothing happened. We thought about it. We worried about it. We struggled with it. That's what those eight years were."
His humorous recollection drew laughter from the audience.
In reality, the lengthy gap was also due to each cast member's busy schedule. Inagaki commented,
"Time simply passed because each of us was busy with our own individual projects."
Kusanagi then added,
"During that time, I got to co-star with Shuri in the TV drama Boogie Woogie! If this movie had been made sooner, maybe we wouldn't have worked together on that show."
Katori immediately interrupted with a perfectly timed comeback:
"Wait a second! Why wouldn't you have been able to co-star if we'd made this movie earlier? What kind of time-travel logic is that!?"
The exchange sent the audience into another round of laughter.
The cast also took part in a special game inspired by the film's title, "Magical Bana Hole."
When Inagaki kicked off the game by saying,
"Speaking of Bana Hole... Goro-chan, you're wonderful!"
before passing the turn to Kusanagi, the unexpected compliment caught everyone—including Kusanagi—completely off guard, prompting uncontrollable laughter.
Embarrassed, Inagaki joked,
"I'm so embarrassed, I want to crawl into the Bana Hole..."
After restarting the game, Kusanagi still seemed unsure of the rules and began blurting out comments such as,
"Goro-chan has beautiful legs! Such slim legs!"
Eventually, Katori threw up his hands, laughing,
"How are we even supposed to play this game!?"
Their lighthearted banter kept the audience smiling throughout the segment.
To conclude the event, the cast and director participated in a special tribute to the independent cinemas across Japan supporting the film's release by reading aloud the names of the participating theaters together, expressing their heartfelt appreciation for the venues that continue to sustain film culture.
When asked to share a message with audiences, Inagaki said,
"I hope each of you will fill in the film's blank spaces with your own imagination."
Kusanagi reflected,
"This is the first film the three of us made together after launching Atarashii Chizu, so it holds a very special place in my heart."
Katori concluded with a smile,
"Why not fall into this fun and fascinating hole one more time? We hope you'll enjoy the film in theaters."
The event came to a warm close with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
