A Dynamic Celebration of Vitality and the Joy of Living: Approximately 30 New Works on View — Ceramic Artist Mayumi Nakamura Announces Solo Exhibition “Opera”
We are pleased to announce that ceramic artist Mayumi Nakamura will present her solo exhibition “Opera” at Galerie GEEK/ART in Shibuya from April 4 (Sat) to May 10 (Sun), 2026.
Throughout her career, Nakamura has explored her inner anxieties and vulnerabilities through her work. In her “Jizai no Hana” (Free-Form Flowers) series, she envelops these emotions in a powerful message: “It’s okay to be yourself. Let your own flower bloom.”
Her “Universe” series transforms the sense of isolation in a fragmented, post-pandemic world into hope through beautifully blended colors.
In “Flowers in the Cosmos,” she merges the worlds of these two series, continually confronting herself, her era, and society, expressing these reflections through clay at each turning point in her practice.
In her upcoming exhibition “Opera,” these three series intersect, giving rise to a new expression that sings of the joy of living.
The works capture moments in which an inner vitality awakens dynamically, resonating vividly with the viewer’s senses.
Set in the gentle season of spring—when flowers bloom in abundance and life breathes anew—we invite you to experience an exhibition that embodies the vitality of nature.
Approximately 30 new works will be exhibited, including sake cups, tea utensils, flower vessels, and ceramic panels.
These works, described by the artist as “expressions of the moment when inner impulses, joy, and prayer bloom into color and form,” feature richly layered glazes and delicately extended petal-like reliefs. Each piece carries a profound presence that transcends the boundaries of ceramics.
In conjunction with the exhibition, special pop-up events will be held in collaboration with the flower shop “104 PowerFlower” and tea brand “CELESTA TEA.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the world of Nakamura’s work not only visually, but through all five senses.
* A phrase that reflects engaging with clay—nature’s gift—and expressing the desire to “let the flowers you truly wish to bloom, bloom.”
