<Overview>
The Ramayana is the most beloved epic poem of the Indian people, along with the Mahabharata (the story of the Bharatas). The original story is said to have been written in Sanskrit and edited by the poet Valmiki around the 3rd century BC. The story has influenced not only India but also Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and other parts of Southeast Asia, where it has spread widely through dance, drama, shadow plays, painting, sculpture, and architecture. Some believe that it was the basis for the Chinese story “Journey to the West” and the Japanese story “Momotaro.
<Story>
In Ayodhya, the royal castle of Kosala in ancient India, four princes were born to three queens, each of whom grew up to be a fine man. Prince Rama, banished from the palace for fourteen years due to a conspiracy within the court, has been living in hiding in the forest with his wife Sita, a beautiful woman of the highest order. Then, Rama, who has exterminated a forest demon, incurs the wrath of the demon king Ravana, and his wife Sita is kidnapped.
With the help of the monkey army, Rama sets out to rescue Sita. However, during the battle with Ravana's powerful army, his brother Lakshmana is seriously injured by drowning. At this time, Hanuman, a general of the monkey army, flies to the Himalayas and carries a mountain of medicinal herbs that heals Lakshmana's wounds, saving his life. Eventually, Rama's army defeats Ravana's army using “Sacred Weapon” and returns to Ayodhya in triumph.
For this screening, we have produced dubbed versions in three new languages (Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu) and localized them so that more people in India can enjoy the film. In addition, some of the music has been newly recorded. This has made it possible to release Japanese films on a large scale, which had been considered difficult.
We will continue to work with IP holders to distribute not only animated films but also live-action films and dramas, which are the pride of Japan, to a variety of media in India. In the first year, we plan to produce several films and expand our business by building a bridge between Indian and Japanese entertainment culture.
