Galerie GEEK/ART Hosts Opening Reception for Ryosuke Toyama’s Solo Exhibition Unveiling the Origins of “Tempusgraph”—A Revolutionary Technique That Redefines Photography

Ahead of the official launch of Ryosuke Toyama’s solo exhibition “Tempusgraph: The 24 Solar Terms—Colors of Time”, an opening reception was held on Thursday, July 10.
The event featured nine of Toyama’s works, along with an interactive booth where guests could experience “Tempusgraph”—a groundbreaking photographic technique developed during the production process. Attendees were invited to explore the artist’s experimental journey leading up to the final creations.

Reflecting on the exhibition, Toyama explained:
“Tempusgraph emerged from a powerful curiosity—the desire to witness the flow of light and express it right before my eyes. Through this technique, I hope to expand the possibilities of photography and redefine what photography can be. More than just showcasing it, I want to connect with others who are also interested in discussing the evolving meaning of photography.”

When asked about the subjects of his work, Toyama shared:
“People often ask what exactly is being captured in the images, but I hesitate to give too much away. It starts to feel like a quiz. I’d rather let each person interpret the work freely, taking home whatever resonates with them.”

The exhibition is jointly hosted at two venues: Galerie GEEK/ART and Tojo Kaikan Photo Laboratory.
At Galerie GEEK/ART, the “24 Solar Terms” series—created using the Tempusgraph technique—is on display, while Tojo Kaikan offers a behind-the-scenes look at the process that led to the development of this innovative method.
We invite you to visit both exhibitions and trace the evolution of Ryosuke Toyama’s vision—from inspiration to realization.
