GEEK PICTURES Produces and Serves as Production Company for The Potentials | Premiere Screening Held for Go Morita’s Latest Film — Morita: “It Slowly Grows on You. It’s a Good Film.”

A premiere screening was held at Theatre Shinjuku for The Potentials, the latest film starring Go Morita, ahead of its nationwide release on Friday, October 30, 2026. GEEK PICTURES participated in the film as both a producer and the production company.

The event welcomed lead actor Go Morita, along with cast members Aoi Morikawa, Yuri Kawakami, and Marika Matsumoto, as well as co-directors Shoichi Morimoto and Takuma Sato.
The cast and directors shared stories from the set, their thoughts on the film, and what each of them found compelling about the project. Tetsuya Takeda, who plays legendary manga artist Haruo Yoshizumi, also joined the event via a special video message.

The Potentials is a human drama centered on Kiichi Tsuchiya, a longtime assistant to a renowned manga artist, and the everyday lives and struggles of the people involved in creating manga.
The story was inspired by Director Morimoto’s own experiences from his many years working as an assistant director. Looking back on the production, Morita said, “I approached the role as if I were playing an extension of Director Morimoto himself.”

When the cast was asked about the atmosphere on set, Morikawa shared an episode that had taken place just a minute before the stage greeting began.
Morita had started handing out packs of two rice balls to Directors Morimoto and Sato. The two directors immediately began eating them, while Morita himself picked up a piece of fried chicken with his hands and happily ate it on the spot.
Morikawa described the scene as “so much like this film,” prompting embarrassed smiles from Morita and the two directors. The story, which offered a glimpse of the close relationship between the cast and directors, filled the venue with laughter.

Speaking about the film’s appeal, Morikawa commented, “It makes you think, ‘This is what life is like, after all.’ It’s a film that feels directly connected to everyday life.”
Matsumoto also noted that although the story is not driven by major dramatic events, “the screen is captivating from the very first scene to the very end.” She highlighted the film’s careful portrayal of genuine human emotions, such as envy and jealousy, as well as its focus on people who do not usually find themselves in the spotlight.
Morita described the film in his own words: “It’s difficult to put into words, but it slowly grows on you. It’s a good film.”
Director Morimoto also shared a message for audiences, saying, “I hope that when people finish watching the film, they come away feeling—even just a little—that they still have more they can do.”

Rather than focusing on great achievements or dramatic turning points, The Potentials portrays people simply living their everyday lives while navigating uncertainty about their dreams and careers.
The film opens nationwide at Theatre Shinjuku and other theaters on Friday, October 30, 2026.
We hope you will experience The Potentials on the big screen.
